Friday 7th June - Dress Rehearsal - in Newbattle High School. Members of the court should wear their full Gala attire. The Court members will be picked up from their homes by car. Pick up usually starts around 5.45pm but this may change. However, you will be notified in due course. The rehearsal starts at 7pm. Your child will be dropped off at home after the rehearsal. Please make sure that there is someone in when they return.
Saturday 8th June - Gala Day – Court members will be picked up again by car. Usually pick up starts around 10:30 but again, this may change and you will be notified in due course. The children will then be taken to the Church Hall where they will have a sandwich and a drink before leaving on a motorcade of the village as detailed in the Gala Programme. The motorcade will then meet the rest of the Gala Parade at the Square Park and will leave there at 1pm and proceed to the Park as detailed, again, in the Programme. Each family will have 2 spaces allocated to them for the reserved seating area by the stage in the park, you must report to a steward who will tick your name off the list and show you to your seats. This will also be the same in the event of inclement weather as space will be restricted – details in the Galaday Programme.
After the crowning ceremony the Court members will be taken to the Church Hall and will be given their Gala bags. Parents/Carers will have to pick up their child from the Church Hall. This will be done as quickly as possible as the children are usually eager to get changed and back to the park to enjoy the rest of the Gala, but please make sure you tell the person in charge that you are taking your child as all children must be accounted for. If you envisage any problems getting to the Church Hall then please contact the committee, at rehearsals, at least one week before the Gala, so that other arrangements can be made.
The judging of the decorated gates will take place on Friday 7th June. Please have fun doing this and although there are only three small prizes awarded, all efforts are greatly admired and appreciated by the Committee and indeed the whole Village for their contribution to the fun of the Gala Day. The judging of the cars will take place before the cavalcade.
Sunday 9th June - Kirking Service - Court members will again wear their full Gala attire and should be brought to thechurch hall by 11.00am in time to prepare for the 11.30am service. All friends and family are welcome to this service, which begins at 11.30am. Weather permitting; there will be an opportunity to take a few photographs of your child outside the Church.
